🫁 Mastering our Nervous System 🫁
Friends, I’d like to start incorporating an educational component into these threads. Because, after all, what's the experiential without the foundational knowledge to back it up?
The deeper I’ve delved into the world of breathwork, the more fascinated I am with the intricate workings of our nervous system.
Our nervous system is everything.
It’s the governing body of our entire bodily communication network, ceaselessly relaying information and signals between our external and internal environment, and serves as the control center for the way we move, think, process emotions, respond to stimuli, and how we galvanize into action or wind down for rest.
Essentially, it affects every aspect of our health. (casual)
So the primary goal is to maintain a state of equilibrium within this powerhouse control center and harmony between our sympathetic “fight or flight” response and our parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system.
The problem is — so many of us live with a chronically dysregulated nervous system. Aka - our systems are out of whack and not performing optimally. This can manifest as that ever-present “on” feeling, even when we’re tired, and a struggle to fully turn “off” when it’s time to rest. Amongst a whole host of other symptoms that impact our wellbeing.
This is where breathwork enters the picture.
Breathwork is the superhero we all need, and luckily one we all have access to. It serves as a training ground for regulating our nervous system. It teaches us how to drive our vessel of a vehicle properly, so we can hit the gas when it’s time to go, and pump the breaks when we need to pause.
One person I consistently turn to for expert guidance in this field is Jonny Miller. If you're not already familiar with the man, I highly recommend checking out his work. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in the realm of mastering our nervous system is remarkable.
Which is why I'm beyond excited to join his next cohort of Nervous System Mastery.
The course begins September 25th. We’ll be diving into the nervous system deep end. If you’re intrigued and feel called to hop on board, reach out & I’ll put you in touch.
Or ~ stay tuned for more distilled insights & juicy nuggets of wisdom I glean from the program.
In Jonny’s words:
“Walking this path of truly mastering your nervous system means feeling in total control of your internal fuel system — either pressing your foot on the gas pedal or recovering from intense output — whatever the moment requires.”
May you continue to breathe easy, friends.
